Hopping on the St. Charles streetcar, the oldest continuously operating streetcar line in the United States, you pass through the Central Business District of New Orleans – the place where fortunes were made, enabling the avenue to thrive. The avenue became a main street for some of the city’s most historic neighborhoods. A sign of achieving the “American dream” in this Creole city was being able to hire an architect like Thomas Sully to design one’s mansion on the “The Avenue.”
